Last night I went to dinner with my running friends to celebrate my friend Christine’s birthday. I hadn’t seen most of these friends since before my husband left back on my birthday. In January. Sigh.
When you’re not running, training and/or racing it’s hard to keep in touch. Of course I’m thankful for social media and texting etc. but it’s not the same as physical interaction. So to sit with these awesome people for two hours made my day. It also made the fire for running burn again in my belly. They are all doing a 10k next weekend and encouraged me to sign up.
And you know what? I couldn’t sign up fast enough. I’ve not run a single race this year. And that sucks. Of course my priorities are elsewhere right now. But I need to make time for me too before I internally combust.
So first thing this morning I signed up.
Yay!! This fueled me to run tonight. I ran FOUR miles after work today with my mini. She scootered along with me!!
We finished the day with a yummy salad. And what makes this even better is that it was my mini’s idea. Kale, romaine hearts, red onions and grilled steak topped with blue cheese crumbles and a little oil and vinegar.
How was your day? Ever bite the bullet and sign up for a last minute race?
Cheers!!
Michelle
That’s awesome that you were able to get together with friends you hadn’t seen in a while. It looks like it was a lot of fun! I agree that online interaction is definitely not the same as in person. Have fun at the 10k 🙂

It’s so awesome that you were able to have a fun night out with your running friends and also that it inspired you to run the 10k! Also, looks like you haven’t lost a step when I saw your pace on that 4 miler. Nice!

Thanks, Pete. My typical short run (less than 6 miles) used to be closer to 9-9:15, but this was a win considering I haven’t done more than 2-3 miles and only a handful of times since my hubby left! Thanks so much!

Ha! funny that you asked ….I did the exact thing last night! Signed up for a half before I could stop myself! (I may or may not have been under the influence of a couple of glasses of wine) 🙂 Have fun running with those awesome friends of yours!!

Oh yes, I have definitely signed up for last minute races! But usually I’m already training for something.
Good luck! And so glad you were able to get together with friends. That’s too long! It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen some of mine, but not nearly that long!

I was quite sore after my 4 mile training run, but I am confident I will be able to finish strong. Thanks!!!

Thanks!!! Trying to really get a good baseline back in where 6-8 miles is an easy long run!

Have fun at your race this weekend! I’ve signed up for a few races last minute, and one time it was a marathon!

Back in the day, my husband and I ran 16-20 miles every Saturday, even between training cycles, so we were always ready for any races that came our way.
