This past weekend was a whirlwind of food, and family, plain and simple. We holed up in our little family nest and made memories to hang on to over this next year of separation. I’ll write this wrap up, mostly in photos, because I really want to go snuggle on the couch with my tribe. I also have a recipe to share, but we will get to that a bit later. ❤
First day of Winter run with my friends! These ladies continue to love me, even when it’s not easy to do
Running friends can always make me smileMany of my running friendsMy girls baked Christmas cookies since I had to work Christmas EveFirst course of Christmas Eve dinner was a baby arugula salad with shrimp dressed with a blood orange vinaigrettePan seared scallops with tri-colored potatoesChecking to see where Santa was locatedLetter to SantaPriceless smile from my mini while opening giftsHubby got her a necklace to wear while he’s away…#allthetearsPrepping Christmas DinnerBacon wrapped dates with goat cheese!I think he approves…Dinner is served!Check out my pup, praying Daddy drops that bone on the floor!! LOLBowling with our new Xbox!Someone takes her bowling very seriously, LOLHubby’s awesome form!Smoothies to start my week out right tomorrow!Homemade beef stock with the bones from our prime rib. It is currently simmering on my stove, and it smells AMAZING in here.My first attempt at Dim SumBamboo steamer that I got for ChristmasI used my new mortar and pestle to add ginger, garlic and pink peppercorns to my dipping sauce. YUM!!I lined my steamer with bok choy leaves vs. using oilDinner is served!
I adapted my recipe from HERE, omitting the jicama, and using 1/2 lb. of ground pork and 1/2 lb. of beef along with 1 cup of finely chopped cooked shrimp. I served with my yummy Asian dipping sauce but you can serve with the suggested plain soy sauce or chili paste. Serve with your favorite rice/rice noodle and veggie for a complete meal! Enjoy!!
This weekend I am linking up with Holly and Tricia again for the Weekly wrap up!
How was your week? Get anything exciting for Christmas?
My name is Michelle and I am a retired Air Force Master Sergeant. I have found a passion for running, cooking, writing, photography and all things that move my love for life! I've ran 3 full marathons, with a PR of 4:25, and 17 half marathons with a PR of 2:00:11 (yup-missed sub 2 by 11 seconds, lol). Thanks for joining me on my journey!

Thanks, Wendy!!!! He will go on orders for 21 days in January, so we don’t have many weekends left together. We sure are doing our best to make the most of our time!! Thank you!
It sure looks like your holiday was nice. I love that he gave Jordyn a necklace to wear while he’s gone. That is so special. Loved all of this and your food is making me hungry. Love the bamboo steamer!
Thanks Ruth. Several tears were shed over the weekend, but most of them in private. We are doing our best to keep on our happy faces!! Thanks for the love and support.
It looks like such a wonderful, warm and cozy family holiday. That is what it’s all about. We had fun acting silly with our kids. I’m so impressed with your Dim Sum. I admit I have gotten lazy with my cooking. Right now, it’s just whatever I can cook the fastest. (Although I cooked an awesome roast beef with mashed potatoes for Christmas Dinner.) But, your food pics always perk me up and make me think I can be more creative. Thanks for linking with us again, Michelle.
I love all the festive running outfits! You are quite the cook, your dinner looks amazing. Loooks like a super holiday week 🙂
I got myself new running shoes and my feet are running happy 🙂
Wow, you guys are some gourmet chiefs!! Your meal looks absolutely delicious. I made a pre-cooked ham that wasn’t warm enough when we served it. I was lucky that my son-in-law also deep fried a turkey that saved my meal! That’s so nice that you have that huge group of running friends. That is great and fun motivation to get out there and run! Enjoy your week ahead and Happy almost New Year!!
SO MUCH FOOD! And what incredible food, for certain! You guys are making dim sum… I’m reheating tortellini for Alex… pretty much the same thing, right? I’m so glad that you all have had so much family time–you can see the love!
All your food you made looks delicious! My dog is the same way, hoping for something to drop on the floor. Love your outfits on your run. So festive! I have the same red striped socks. Looks like you had a wonderful Christmas!
Oh wow the pictures of your food look amazing, I’m like everyone else, restaurant quality right there. I can’t cook very good, I can keep you alive but that’s about it. 😦 I love seeing the pictures from Christmas with you family! Getting letters from Santa brings back memories for me too. I’m so very glad you are enjoying this time with your family. Thank you again for linkin up with us Michelle!
Thank YOU, Tricia!! I’ve struggled to keep balance between blogging and real life right now, so the link up helps keep me motivated to at least post once a week. Happy Holidays to you and your family, and thank you for the lovely compliment. SOMEDAY I hope to own my own restaurant! ❤
OMG, all the food. It looks amazing!! Looks like you had such a wonderful holiday. Your hubby is so sweet to get your daughter a necklace. So happy for you and all of the awesome memories you have!
Love the festive outfits for your first day of winter run! Those food pics look yummy! I wish I was a better cook. My husband does most the cooking around here. I must say he’s pretty good at it. Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Your dog is just like ours – wanting to be in every photo that has food in it. So did he end up with the bone?
