goals, moving forward

New Year goals and thoughts

I started out my 2019 with a nasty cold that has left me down for the count the last two days. Thankfully we were able to ring in the new year with some new friends that are also from the Chicagoland area, and are now Florida transplants as well.

I wanted to start my new year out with a run and list of goals for the year, neither of which have happened yet. So here’s my first draft, or more so a rough draft of some goals I have this year.

  1. Run at least 2-3 per week, and do core daily, even if that’s just a plank daily. I still have the #sixpackbysummer goal, and summer in Florida starts in just a couple of months. I am almost at my weight loss goal from last year, so I will continue to maintain and maybe lose an extra lb. or two.
  2. Sign up for more races, because to be honest its hard to keep my running motivation if I don’t have a race coming up. Our next half is the end of February in St. Pete, Florida. No goal time for that race, just want to finish strong. I missed last week’s long run, but hopefully this cough will be gone by the weekend so I can make up for it.
  3. Love myself more, and put myself first more. It’s always been about my family, my job, etc. etc. I need to make it more about me, cuz hey, my 46th birthday is right around the corner and I don’t have all the time in the world anymore.
  4. Write more, really write…I always wanted to write a book/cook book but here another year has passed and I haven’t pursued either. Again, time isn’t something I can waste anymore.
  5. And lastly, figure out how to make a living doing something I love. Not that my job isn’t important or that I dislike it. But I am ready to either move up in my career, or move on. But of course there are those bills to pay, so we shall see. I am not giving up hope.

What are you goals for 2019? Do you do resolutions?

  1. You have some good goals, and I know you’ll do just fine with them. Especially the book! I have goals that I’m choosing silence about. I guess I need to show myself I’m serious about them. You know, walk the walk. I always need work in that area. I hope you feel better soon. ♥️

    1. Thanks. I’ve had these goals for several years so am hoping by writing them down again maybe I’ll find more motivation to actually do them. I’d love to hear about your goals but respect you wanted to be quiet about them too. Xoxo

  2. New Year is the perfect occasion to celebrate love, friendships and all the good things in life. Let’s take the time to appreciate what this year has given us and what the new one is about to bring! Happy New Year!

  3. I love the way you have broken down your goals to things that are realistic & measurable that way they are not overwhelming. I agree it is hard to motivate to run when you don’t have a race you are training for (been there for a few years now). Keep on moving forward and motivating 🙂

  4. I’ve got more soft goals than hard goals. I’m due in March so things kind of depend on that. I’d like to sign up for a September 4 mile run/walk but we’re playing it by ear.

My hard goals are safely deliver baby and enjoy every moment with baby girl. If I don’t run a bit but she’s happy & healthy, i’ll be ok.

  5. I would like to run more often too but we will see how that goes.

As far as work, we are definitely on the same page there. After 20 years in the AF and almost 10 at the job I have now, I am so over doing what other people want me to do for money.

Good news is that I gave a couple things in the works that may pay the Bill’s and allow me to work for myself. My big problem there, I suppose, is taking a risk. My work life up till now has been so comfortable and consistent, it’s hard to walk away into uncertainty.

Happy New Year and good luck with all your goals 🙂

      1. You are only a couple years younger than me so I don’t think it’s too late. Actually, I don’t think it’s ever too late.

      2. Life has throw almost everyone I know, me included, a few curve balls so you are far from being alone there.

Also, I am not always right but I am right about this. Don’t give up 🙂

  6. Hi Michelle,
    Happy New Year to you.
Ive just decided to love myself and put myself first.

We share the same hobbies with the exception of running.
My husband ran the Comrades Marathon.
There may be hope for me yet!

    PS,
I admire the determination of runners.

  7. My mom asked me about my new year resolutions and I reminded her that, as a teenager, I made a new year resolution not to make any more new yesr resolutions. That’s a resolution I have kept! Anyway, I have a suspicion that sharing one’s new year resolutions might jinx them, kind of like revealing one’s birthday wishes upon blowing out the birthday cake candle. Do you think so?
