Celebrate the good, Deployment thoughts

The final countdown

Gosh can you believe we’re in the final countdown of this deployment??  I mean…We’re counting DAYS people!!  Ok, we’ve still got weeks in there but I can finally see the end.

I also finally got what I think are the right shoes. Ladies and gentlemen meet my new Nike Pegasus shoes!  Aren’t they pretty!?  Haven’t had a chance to test them out yet but soon!!

My birthday is Tuesday and when my daughter and I got home from our fun day of shopping and going out to eat, THIS was on our front door step.

Yup. That’s my hubby’s trunk from overseas!!!  Wooohoooooo!!

Also, it wouldn’t be a good post without pics of my beautiful daughters. These two ladies have been my rock over this last year and I couldn’t have done it without them, and the help from a couple close friends.

Lastly. This quote rings true as this deployment ends.

I’ve learned a lot this last year. Who my friends are. How strong I am. And that above all else, my family WILL get through this time apart. I couldn’t be more proud of my daughters and my husband and his troops. May God continue to watch over us all.

Thanks all for your amazing love and support over this last year!  I’ll never forget it!!

What shoes do you run in?

Have gone through a life changing event and realized you don’t have as many friends as you thought?

Hope y’all have a blessed week!

Michelle

  1. How fabulous that you are counting down days and no longer months! Seeing your husband’s trunk on your doorstep must have been the best birthday present!

I run in Brooks Glycerins, but ran in Asics for about 15 years before switching to Brooks. Prior to my Asics, I wore Nike Air Pegasus – I’m talking in the early 1990’s!

  2. What you wrote hits home with me… At 19 I became pregnant and had my daughter and my “friends” became non existent as my life changed. Since then I have been careful who I let into my inner circle and who I called friend. I learned at a younger age there was a difference between a friend and an acquaintance, many people don’t learn that until much later. Over the last year I noticed you have remained positive and you have figured out you are stronger than you realized, what a blessing. Looking forward to the day I see a picture of you and your husband smiling together 🙂

  3. Yay! So happy you are only days away- and you made it. You’re so strong to go through this.

Glad you found some fresh kicks! I love my Pegasus for easy runs since they are super comfy. Hope you have many happy miles together

  5. Wow, a year already. Time has flown. I am sure you think differently. A few weeks ago, I was listening to an interview of Michelle Obama, where she mentions about what she learned from military families. There was one thing she said, “some of those families have seen 8/9 deployments, their children go through 5/6 school before they finish high school and you don’t hear them complaining. They are the most resilient families I have met” I thought of you and your daughters. No one in my family has ever served, but through your blog I get a glimpse and I know this year would not have been easy. Your daughters are beautiful, and your spirit even more so. Every time I am down due to my own struggles I often think of your family. Thank you for sharing your story, for your honestly, your resilience and your grace throughout it all.

I am in the market for new walking/running shoes. So don’t have one to tell you about. And you are right about friends. There have been some fair weather friends and then there have been people who have just stuck by us.

    1. Your comment brought me to tears…and by that I mean happy tears. There are some very raw emotions I have felt over this last year, some I haven’t yet had the ability to share because there really are no words. But resilience has been something that has been learned by me and my family. You couldn’t have found a more perfect word. Thank you for being a part of our story. The support from fellow bloggers has been life changing for me.
I hope you have a wonderful week! ❤

  6. I remember reading your posts early into the deployment and feeling so sad for you and your family and now I’m so happy it’s almost at an end, I knew you could get through it!!! I can’t quite believe it’s been a year though!!!!!
I read quote recently ‘when the wrong people leave your life, the right things start happening’

  7. So happy for you!!!! I hope those “days” go by really really fast!
My cousin had just moved his family to Spain where he is now stationed and a couple weeks before Christmas he was deployed, his wife is having a really hard time because now she’s in a foreign country with no family and no friends, pregnant and two kids who constantly beg her to go back home so they can see their friends. I’ve got to share your blog with her, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before!
I find you all who make these sacrifices amazing, and I can’t wait for you to meet up with your husband again!!!!

  8. Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it’s almost time for hubby to come home! I can’t imagine how difficult this year has been for you, but you have made it! You are so strong, and such an inspiration for your girls. Fingers crossed that the remaining days of deployment fly right by!

  9. Happy Birthday!! I can’t believe how excited I am that we’re in the final countdown and I don’t even know you’re husband!! lol

I can run in almost any shoe…except Nike. I don’t know, my feet just don’t feel comfy when in them for running…but so glad you’ve found shoes that feel good!!

Also, as I’ve said before, you have had an incredible amount of support – virtual, physical and emotional…but woman, you are the one who held the family together. YOU have been the trunk of the tree. YOU are amazing.

    1. Jane, I can’t thank you enough for your support. It amazes me how close I can feel to people I’ve never met in person. I may be the trunk, but I’ve had a lot of help keeping my tree watered. And I’ll never ever forget that…xoxoxoxo

      1. Whenever I have a chance to see the gardeners in my life who water my trunk, I feel so grateful to have been given that glance so you can appreciate and acknowledge them!! The best gardeners are the ones you never see otherwise!

And, remember, I still have yet to Illinois so hopefully you’ll all still be living there when I do finally do it and we can meet…although I haven’t done Florida either…lol!

      2. I love that analogy, and see a blog post in my future about it. Thanks for the beautiful compliment. I never saw myself as the trunk…
And yes, we will need to plan a race, even together sometime! Once I actually start running more than a couple miles at a time which better be soon, LOL!!! xoxo

  10. Happy birthday! Oh my goodness, I can’t even imagine what you must’ve been feeling to see that trunk.

I’ve never really had anything other than a small circle of friends, wherever I’ve lived. Some of that may have to do with the fact that outside of the first 7 years we were married, I worked from home. But even though, friends come, friends go (and of course we’ve moved around a little, too). It’s hard, sometimes.

  11. Literal chills about it being just days. Seriously. What a freaking year, huh? He will be back before you know it, though I know that these last few days will be the fasted and longest of the entire time. I have run in Pegasus’s and they are great! And Happy Birthday!
