moving forward

The first anniversary

There are life changing events that happen in everyone’s life.  No one lives a perfectly easy life filled with daisies and unicorns and picnics and sunshine.  No one.

Yesterday, was the anniversary of one of these life changing events for me.  It was a moment in time that I will never forget, and just recalling how I felt at 5 P.M. on March 16th makes me shudder.  See, my oldest daughter was in a car accident, which she was hit by a car while on her bike.  The story can be found here, and to date it is the top viewed post on my blog in 4 years.

The first love of my life
The first love of my life

This event changed my life forever.  I hang on a little tighter when my kids hug me.  I TRY not to get so bent out of shape over the little things, although battling good grades is still my breaking point.  I don’t spend as much time cleaning or doing yard work, instead I make the most of the time I have to make memories with my family and friends.  When people reach out to me and offer their help, I let them, more so I welcome the effort with open arms.

With that, I’ll keep this post short, and sweet.  I’ve got a work out on deck after I finish this post, and then I PRAY for a good nights sleep.  It’s been 9-10 days since I’ve slept more than an hour at a time, and I’m a zombie!!

Have you had any life changing events that stand out in your life?  What lesson did you find most important from these/this event?

Have a great night everyone!

Michelle

  1. I can’t say as I’ve really had a life changing event that way, which I suppose is a good thing.

Sure, I’ve had my share of losses, my mom is a breast cancer survivor, and my FIL had dementia. But nothing that impacted us quite like that — knock on wood!

  2. Amen to your daughter’s survival!

In 2 weeks, on April 1st. (No joke), I got a call from my mom as she prepared for a colonoscopy saying she felt off and not hersef…I brushed it off as her being nervous and anxious…..2 hrs later I got a phone call thay she had had a massive heart attack….3 major arteries 100% …she should have died but due to fast and efficient care..she is still here 🙂

I hope you have a good workout and a good night’s sleep!

  3. I never knew what happened in the accident until just now reading it. What a scary event. I am constantly amazed by God’s mercy and grace and power. She is such a beautiful soul and I wish she didn’t have to go through all of that, but thank the Good Lord she is okay. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  4. That is an awful thing to have to go through! You are one strong lady to have survived mentally intact with all you’ve been through. No, I can’t say I’ve had a life changing moment to that extreme. I’m just happy for you that she is okay now.

  5. I am glad your daughter is well now, Michelle. This things remind us that life is so short and we have to spend it to make beautiful memories with our loved ones, as you said. Be happy, Michelle!

  6. It really is important to savor the time we have together with loved ones! I agree that this didn’t really hit home for me until a traumatic event either. I will never be able to be glad for the event but I am grateful for the reminder to live my life with as much joy and love as possible. I hope that you have a good night of sleep soon!

  7. So sweet. I remember this event last year – I’m so glad everything turned out good and made for such a positive impact in your life. My life changing moment happened a long time ago (when I was a teenager) so sometimes it’s hard to know exactly the impact it had on my life since I didn’t really know who I was then. But when I think back on it, I believe it has definitely contributed to my “live life to the fullest” perspective on life.

  8. There are so many moments that can ground us in an instant and make us realize life is far too precious to take for granted.

Don’t remember this day for what it could have been; instead, celebrate life and love and all that is good in the world. ❤

  9. I went back and read the other post as I did not know this. What a moving story you shared with us. It just confirms God will get us through the tough times when we do feel alone and helpless. I’m so very glad your daughter was ok from this. I had a similar situation when my daughter was riding my horse and the horse fell. I saw it in slow motion and my life flashed before my eyes. She was knocked out cold and limp in my arms. Then when I did everything wrong by picking her up holding her instead of keeping her still I just cried out to God to help me. Things were a blur for me and her too cause she had a head injury and was talking crazy, thats what made me realize she needed to go to the hospital. It all turned out ok in the end but it was so scary! I felt so helpless and I was right there not 20 feet from her when it happened. Things can happen so quickly. Hugs to you friend, I’m so very glad I connected with you. xoxo
