Deployment thoughts, weekly wrap up

Weekly wrap up 1/31/2016

I thought about not linking up this week for my weekly wrap up with Holly and Tricia, but it’s been such a good way to keep me accountable, AND keep me writing vs. bottling up all my emotions, so here goes…
weekly-Wrapup
My week started out pretty darn good.
Monday I did a brisk walk on my dreadmill while dinner was cooking, just 3 miles, but felt good to stretch the legs.  I also did the Tracy Anderson strength training video (30 minutes)
I met up with my friends for Tuesday night run club, and knocked out 6.5 miles at an average pace of 9:24.  Not bad for this average runner.
My new jacket is SUPER reflective, I love it!

Wednesday-Pilates and core for 20 minutes
Thursday-rest and this is the day things took a downward dive.
Friday I was supposed to do my long run for the second week of marathon raining, see my Runfessions post, but ditched it since I wasn’t feeling well.  Managed a few miles on the ‘mill.  Nothing even pic-worthy LOL
All in all, my week was mediocre at best.  The news that my husband leaves next week just has left me in an emotional tailspin, and the addition of the ever dreaded weekend duty this weekend has left my positive attitude falling a bit short. I have, though, delved into the Army wife network group that we’ve built on FB, and have been distracting myself by looking for yellow ribbons to pass out at the farewell ceremony.  Sometimes when you are feeling low, it’s nice to help someone else…it not only makes THEM feel good, but you get good feels in return.

Saturday/Sunday I worked, and when I have weekend duty, sadly I have very little left in the tank for workouts.  This afternoon when I arrived home, my youngest greeted me with warm hugs and a bright smile so I passed on the nap I was so looking forward to, lol.  I did have a slight moment of panic, when our heater wasn’t turning on and the temps were dropping quickly in the house.  I went down to the basement, realizing that I wasn’t sure which big box looking thing was the heater. How was I going to fix this? And then it hit me…I better figure it out, and quick.  Thankfully the hubby was home, and I felt terrible waking him from HIS nap, as he just came off 21 days of duty and leaves again Wednesday.  But he grinned tiredly, and fixed it.  YAY.  We have heat.  CRAP. I couldn’t do it myself.

Yup, this sums up how I felt, LOL…all I can do is laugh, right?
How was your week? How do you handle set backs in regards to your training? For my women readers, are you handy around the house?
Cheers!
❤ Michelle

  1. I have a very handy husband and leave most of it up to him. But I did replace a broken toilet handle once all by myself! But then yesterday I couldn’t get the laundry washer to start. I even reset the power strip (I thought) that it was plugged into. Got my husband to look at it. The power strip itself was unplugged, DOH! 😛

  2. I am sorta handy around the house and handy enough to pick up the phone and call for help when necessary! LOL! I think with my hubby being gone most of the time for so long, I just had to learn how to do it… but I also grew up on a mini-farm, so am used to figuring out how to do things. I’m sure when your hubby is gone and you’re desperate, you can google it, or shout out on Facebook and someone will come to the rescue 🙂 A missed workout or two or three isn’t going to derail you… just be kind to yourself as stress really does make everything feel harder. ❤

  3. I am not handy at all and feel pretty inept around the house. I’m so glad you are posting and it might really help in the long run. Speaking of long runs, you did just fine. I’m trying not to be so hard on myself when I don’t live up to my own expectations. Life can, and does, get in the way sometimes. I hope you have a good week coming up. ❤️

  4. Michelle, I’m so very glad you chose to join us and you are right if nothing else the accountability purpose and I tend to think our group is pretty supportive! You said something very profound in your post, when you are feeling low it helps to lift someone else up, ok not those words but you are so right. I challenge you to do this maybe a little act of kindness each time you are overcome with emotion of your husband not being there. I an not very handy at all I wish I was better about how to fix things around the house. I’m glad your heat didn’t go out. We are dealing with a faulty water heater this afternoon. Thankfully we have the RV and we’re all getting hot showers in there.

  5. I’m actually pretty handy–thanks to my dad and my husband. My sister and I were talking last week and she was upset because her disposal was clogged and she couldn’t get it going. I told her about the allen wrench and thingy in the bottom that she needed to turn. Yep, she got it unclogged. No thanks to her man or my dad… Yep.

You can do it. You have to. I’m so sorry that you do.

  6. I consider myself fairly handy and often come to the rescue at my office. However, I let my husband do the stuff at home as my plate is already too full around there. I hope you’ll be giving out the biggest, yellowest ribbons you can find! I’m glad to know that tradition is still around. I sat in an all day class yesterday and today AND worked before and after today’s class. It sucks the energy right out of you! Thanks for linking with us Michelle!

  7. NO one at my house is handy lol I have to pay someone for everything…
It is hard to do much when you are emotionally exhausted. That is a lot of change to be faced with. I hope you can get a routine going that will make you feel better soon.

  8. Ugh deployments are hard – sending you a warm hug as you gear up for your husband’s departure! I have an engineering degree so I tend to be pretty handy. I also bought my home when I was single so a lot of it was trial by fire! 🙂 Great job with your workouts! Hope your week goes smoothly. I’ll keep you in my thoughts on Wed. ❤

  9. Alex and I are equally handy. Which means ish. We can do things, but we like to have professionals involved for everyone’s safety, lol. Thinking about you so much right now. Let me know how I can help.

  10. My husband is generally our handy man, although in the last few years, I’ve gotten pretty good about just handling what I can when I need to. When it comes to training, I just accept that life happens, and I do the best I can. I often don’t follow plans exactly right because my schedule is insane, so you just have to adapt and move on.

  11. You did great this week, especially with not feeling well and everything else you have on your plate! Other things in life have to come first sometimes. And I am so not handy. I try to google things first to see if it’s something I can at least attempt but otherwise, I have to call a professional if Mike isn’t around.

  12. I am soooooo not handy, but my husband is. Yet in the almost 2 years we lived apart (with him coming home once or twice a month), somehow I managed.

You will rise to the occasion — I’m sure of it! And if not, put the call out to the other army wives. I bet some can either help or at least point you in the right direction.

  13. I hate not being able to get workouts done once they’re scheduled. But having said that, I am getting more gracious about letting them go and forgiving myself for not getting them done. There’s always another day and another chance.

  14. Great job on the workouts you were able to get in. It’s always frustrating when you had a workout planned and something comes up. I am not very handy at all and would definitely need help with things like that. At least now you know how to if it happens again. Or didn’t you watch him fix it? 🙂

  15. Ha! I am SO not handy with household stuff unless it involves a paint brush and color selection LOL And, setbacks with training…oh, yes been there, done that. I think the setbacks keep us humble…at least my setbacks seem to happen when I get over-confidant, and they remind me that I am human 😉

  16. Oh gosh, I am so not handy. Nothing like a deployment to bring the handiness out though! I’m dealing with major setbacks in my training right now, like not wanting to do it at all kind of setback, lol. Still trying to figure out how to make that work in my favor 🙂
